SANParks will offer South Africans the opportunity to visit both Cape Point and Boulders Beach at a reduced price as of November 1 2018, paired with a new online ticketing system.
Locals can experience the natural wonder of both of these popular Cape destinations at a discounted rate compared to international and South African Development Community (SADC) foreign visitors.
The new price, implemented at the start of next month will apply to South African nationals and SADC foreign nationals who can prove they hold official South African residency.
SANParks spokesperson, Saskia Marlowe, told us what visitors will need to qualify for the discount.
“For SA residents this means SA ID book, SA ID card, Drivers licence or SA Passport must be produced upon arrival or the relevant visa or residency documentation. For SADC members this means producing a passport on arrival at the gate,” Marlowe said.
The price changes are permanent.
New prices
Entry to Cape Point currently cost all entrants R147,00 and entry to Boulders beach cost South African nationals R76,00 per adult.
All adult rates apply to children over the age of 12 years according to SANParks.

New IT Gate and online ticket system
Marlowe explains that the reason for the price decrease is part of a bigger plan of moving the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) and West Coast National Park (WCNP) forward in technological advancements.
“In order to facilitate the introduction of differential tariffs at TMNP from 1 November 2018 onwards a new Gate IT system was required. The motivation for the system was a combination of envisioned benefits such as the implementation of the differential tariff system, improved governance, reduced cash handling and efficient processing of visitors at the gates,” she said.
The new system will allow locals and visitors to purchase tickets for the TMNP and West Coast National Parks online.
In order to purchase a ticket, patrons must visit the SANParks website, click on the ‘Day tickets’ tab and purchase their online barcode to scan at the entrance of the park gates.
Access to the WCNP will cost R 87,00 per adult and R44 per child as of November 1 2018.
