If you woke up this morning, heard the buckets of water pouring down outside and wished you could stay in bed, you are not alone. Today’s rain has already caused havoc on the roads, and it’s only the morning. The Western Cape Disaster Management (WCDM) Centre has warned that heavy rain storms, flooding and gale force winds are expected to continue for the next few days. For those who live close to the sea, you can expect high seas with waves of up to six metres.

The WCDM has predicted that this severe weather will continue to Thursday 28 July. If rain and wind were not bad enough, the IOL reports that certain parts of the Western Cape could see snow in the coming days too. This means we have to take extra care to keep warm, and be vigilant on the roads. If light rain slows down traffic, imagine what this will do? It’s hard to enjoy this type of weather, especially when you have to go outside. But before all the complaints start, we should be mindful of the drought we experienced earlier this year. It was so bad, that water restrictions were in place. Back then we were wishing for rain, and mother nature has finally answered the call (albeit in spectacular dramatic fashion!).
