You’re sitting on a patio, soaking up the sun and sipping an ice cold beer. The Cederberg Mountains stretch out before you. The air is crisp, clean and refreshing. The kids are off having fun and you finally get to put your feet up and relax. This is the perfect family holiday.

It may seem too good to be true, but this holiday is there for you to enjoy at the Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort. Tucked away in Citrusdal, it offers great accommodation, plenty of entertainment for the kids and fun activities you can enjoy as a family. Most recently, they re-opened their Zipline after it was destroyed in veld fires in March.

Kids and adults with childlike enthusiasm will have a blast zipping over lakes and bushes with the majestic Cederberg Mountains as a backdrop. We got an opportunity to try out the three completed platforms (there will be seven in total) at the official opening. After lots of peer pressure and a fair amount to bubbly, I got saddled up, strapped in and whizzed on the Zipline. It was incredible. Flying over stunning nature is a wonderful experience.

To test the activities team, I ‘strategically’ got stuck (uhm, twice) and had to be rescued. A super helpful and ridiculously strong gentleman came out and pulled me back to safety. So rest assured, the Zipline is perfectly safe for you and your kids. You’re welcome.

Another fun activity is target shooting. After a quick demonstration and some helpful pointers I was soon hitting the target with ease (my enemies should be afraid!). There is also mini golf, awesome trampolines that make you feel like you are jumping on top of the world and swimming pools. There’s an outdoor pool, and for those chillier days an indoor pool so you can always go for a dip.

For the grown ups who want to conserve their energy, there is plenty for you to enjoy. Carmién Rooibos host a variety of tea pairings that you can indulge in. These include flowers, savoury and sweet treats, and chocolate pairings. We were treated to a fabulous tea, beer and food pairing with Carmién, Darling Brew and Piekenierskloof’s executive chef. Tasting beer and tea simultaneously may seem weird, but it was absolutely delicious. The Piekenierskloof Wellness Centre is close by so you can treat yourself to some pampering.
