The seasons are changing. The days are becoming longer, and the scorching sun comes out to play. On hot days, we like to cool off with an ice cold drink or our favourite flavoured popsicle that brings back our childhood memories. But we’re adults, we want wine, not juice boxes and sticky fingers. Luckily, PJ Pops has heard our wine-loving cries and created the wine popsicle.

Pierre Jourdan Wine Popsicles or ‘PJ Pops’ were created by Pierre Jourdan, hence the name. The idea stemmed from Natasha Alomia and Jon-Marc De Carvalho, who are the founders and directors of JML Consulting Ltd. The company is focused on health, wellness and lifestyle. We should find a way to thank them for this insane idea, which will definitely become the new Cape Town craze.

Alcohol-based popsicles have been doing the rounds, especially overseas. The first time I saw alcohol-based ice lollies was at a music festival. This was about three years ago, it was one of the coolest things to experience (and pretty pricey). It gets hot on the festival dance floor and there was no better way to cool down.

PJ Pops will be making its way to the Mother City, launching on 1 September 2016 with two flavours. The Pierre Jourdan Brut, a Cap Classique and Pierre Jourdan Tranquille, a still wine made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Both popsicles are made from wines from the Haute Cabrière cellar in the breathtaking valleys of Franschhoek.

As for flavours, the PJ Pops wines are slightly sweet to give off a dessert impression.

The wine popsicles come in pretty packaging – sophisticated green, pink and white stripes. The peel-off lid is made from a 100% aluminium top seal, which makes the popsicles really easy to open (this way you can eat them faster). You’ll appreciate that the packaging is recyclable. Yay for environmentally-friendly wines!

Now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. PJ Pops wine popsicles will be available at selected Pick n Pay Liquor and Grocery outlets at the recommended retail price of R25 per popsicle. We’ll be first in line, we bet you’ll want to be too. See you there.
