Wednesday 31 August
99 Loop Gallery, CBD
Artist Ilené Bothma, who has shown both locally and internationally, will be exhibiting a new series of works called Veiled Threats at 99 Loop Gallery.
Veiled Threats grew out of Bothma’s concern with the nature of the domestic space, as well as the violence committed against it. Her work often utilises found objects and materials associated with that space, particularly household furniture.
The exhibition comprises a series of self-portraits which investigate identity politics, particularly the role of women within the domestic sphere.
A combination of watercolours and mixed media works also investigate surface and artifice, distortions of identity, and the adaptation of the self within an a context that is unavoidable.
