The 109km 40th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour held on Sunday was a huge success. Tragedy marred the event though, when two cyclists died – one from a heart attack and the other from an accident on the route.

Over 35 000 participants enjoyed the still, warm weather, Cape Town offered. This is a stark difference to last year’s event which had to be cancelled due to gale force winds.

Organisers noted that over 160 riders received medical attention, with 78 transferred to hospital on the day.

The winner of the race was Franschhoek-born  Nolan Hoffman, this is his 3rd title at the Cape Town Cycle Tour. Kim Le Court finished first in the women’s category, she is from Mauritius but lives in Pretoria.
