There could be no better way to avoid the Mother City’s beautifully temperate weather than lazing in front of a silver screen. On the most sweltering days, retreating to a climate-controlled indoor bioscope is a surefire way to beat the heat. These five locations offer a refreshing film experience to make your summer that much more memorable.
1 Private Cinema at Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa
Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa houses a cosy, 16-seater cinema with soft and luxurious leather seats. You can devour an assortment of nibbles such as the crowd-pleasing popcorn, milkshakes, hot chocolate and candy. A new schedule, including five movies a day, is designed each month. Their ‘Dinner and a Movie’ package involves a meal at the esteemed Azure Restaurant and tailor-made film selection.
2 Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema at Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel
Pink Flamingo Rooftop Cinema is surrounded by seven antiquated Airstream trailers on the rooftop of the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel. Given that the hotel is the only one of its kind on the globe, enjoying a movie at this establishment makes for a night out like no other. Relish a welcome drink, popcorn and sweets, all included in the ticket price. For a few extra bucks, indulge in a delectable picnic basket.
3 Scene Xtreme-cinema at Canal Walk
Nu Metro has done it again. Africa’s first laser projection cinema, known as Scene Xtreme, opened its doors at Nu Metro Cinemas in Canal Walk Shopping Centre. The theatre offers the most cutting-edge version of digital projection technology and features a Dolby Atmos sound system. Imagery is exceptionally clear and vivid, ensuring an out-of-this-world movie showcase.
4 4DX Cinema at the V&A Waterfront
Nu Metro welcomed Africa’s first 4DX cinema, which launched at the V&A Waterfront. Its moving seats, along with water sprays, gushes of wind and natural aromas, transport movie-goers into the realm of virtual reality. Due to flashing lights, it’s recommended that epilepsy sufferers avoid the 4DX theatre. Take note that pregnant women and children under the age of five are not allowed into the theatre.
