The Cape Brewing Company, situated at the Spice Route wine estate in Paarl has long been a favourite among local craft beer drinkers. The good news is, they now also have a sister microbrewery on the Main Road of Franschhoek, which opened in February in collaboration with the Leeu Collection of luxury properties and Winelands experiences.

The Tuk Tuk brewery is micro indeed, with 250-litre capacity she produces a variety of superb craft beers under the helm of experienced brewmaster Dewald Goosen. A unique range of The Tuk Tuk bespoke brews are currently being crafted, but for the time being patrons can order their favourite brews from the existing CBC portfolio.

Those wanting to sample the different brews can opt for a taste of either 3 or 6, 100ml tastings. These include the easy drinking Lager; the Pilsner, with its strong hoppy flavour and nice bitter finish; the fruity and fragrant Amber Weiss or the Krystal Weiss, which is slightly more bitter; the Indian Pale Ale, which has a lovely orange colour, fruity but with a balanced bitterness and strong malt flavour and lastly the full bodied and fruity Imperial IPA.

Visitors can sit inside where they will have a bird’s eye view of the brewery in action or can opt to sit in the outside courtyard and watch the passersby while enjoying a specially crafted cold one.

You can pair your brews with delicious Mexican-inspired snacks like ceviche, nachos, and tacos and if you are feeling brave try the T&T (tequila and a spicy tomatino shot) chased by a cooling half-pint of lager. Bottoms Up!
