When visiting Cape Town, it is easy to get swept up by the stunning views, vibrant city life and numerous tourist attractions. We have a world class city, so much so that it is often referred to as another country within South Africa. While it may feel like Cape Town is international, it is deeply rooted in South African history and a big part of that history are the stories of the Cape Malays.

While you see glimpses of this history in places like District Six, the Bo Kaap and numerous museums, the Kaapse Stories show at Richard’s Supper Stage and Bistro immerses you fully into this heritage, while still providing top notch service. Listen to Cape and South African songs, learn about the history of the city and indulge in delicious Cape cuisine, it truly is an authentic Cape Town dinner and show experience.

When you enter, you are warmly greeted by friendly staff. Once you are shown your table, you can immediately tuck into lovely salads and bread and are offered a welcome drink of either sparkling wine or juice. The starters are brought to your table and include an array of local favourites including snoek pate, grilled vegetables and samoosa.

While enjoying your starter you can enjoy the vintage posters, street names and clippings that all allude to the Cape Town of old. Once you are settled the show begins…

Kaapse Stories follows the  Kleintjies family from District Six, who love to celebrate the musical cultural heritage. They sing in English, Afrikaans and in IsiXhosa, and take you on a journey from past to present. The performers are enthusiastic, engaging and have absolutely incredible voices. Some songs will get you up and dancing, others may bring a tear to your eye and all of them showcase the performers’ talent perfectly.

The main meal is served buffet style during an intermission of the show. You are treated to Cape Malay dishes like breyani, chicken and prawn curry, a classic beef fillet, baked fish and a number of veggies. You have the choice to try some or all of the dishes, and they are so wholesome and tasty, it feels as if they came straight from the kitchen of an aunty who poured love into the food.

Dessert includes malva pudding, milk tart, koeksister and a skewer of fruit all plated and presented to you at your table while you enjoy the rest of the show. Kaapse Stories has been seen by over 100 000 people who got to experience an important part of Cape Town. It is a two year Lilizela Tourism Award winner for Best Cape Cultural Experience and has been nominated again. It is also certified excellent by TripAdvisor, making it a must see show for anyone visiting the Mother City.
