It was announced yesterday evening at London’s historical Guildhall that a Cape Town restaurant was placed at 28th spot in San Pellegrino’s annual The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.

The Test Kitchen jumped up an impressive 20 places this year from last year’s rank. It was also awarded the Acqua Panna best restaurant in Africa achievement. As quoted by the award ceremony’s website:

‘Located at Cape Town’s Old Biscuit Mill in the city’s up-and-coming arts district of Woodstock, the restaurant reflects its artistic surroundings in both its cuisine and decor, with its massive open-plan kitchen allowing diners to be part of the creative process. Offering five- and nine-course tasting menus at dinner as well as a five-course and an à la carte menu at lunch, a meal at The Test Kitchen is an experience packed full of imagination and flair.’

‘I am thrilled, as we have been working hard at The Test Kitchen over the past year, experimenting with new techniques, focusing on getting everything near perfect while still keeping our playful edge,’ says owner Luke Dale-Roberts of the achievement.

The Woodstock restaurant is no stranger to receiving awards and picked up full honours at the Eat Out Restaurant Awards in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

El Celler de Can Roca, a contemporary Catalan restaurant from the creative genius of the Roca brothers, took home San Pellegrino’s top honours for 2015.

Restaurants like The Test Kitchen are putting us on the map, and based on its jump from 48 to 28 in the space of a year, 2016 will be looking rosy. Well done to owner Luke Dale-Roberts, head chef Ivor Jones and team!
