This weekends’ fabulous Burger Festival showcased some of the city’s hottest up and coming foodie offerings, and that’s how we spotted Skinny Scoop protein ice cream.

Co-owners, Jarred Plu’g and Gabriella Esposito created Skinny Scoop as a product that would satisfy cravings without compromising on one’s wellness endeavours. Passionate about health and fitness; they combined Jarred’s personal training knowledge with Gabi’s baking and dessert knowledge to create an ice cream product that is high in protein, low GI and low carb, free of artificial stabilisers or binders with no added sugar, preservatives or colourants.

A product of Nu Whey, Skinny Scoop is the first protein ice cream in South Africa that is also sugar-free; it’s sweetened with xylitol. If you were to taste Skinny Scoop without knowing that it’s a ‘health’ ice cream, you wouldn’t be able to tell. There is no artificial sweetener taste; it’s ultra smooth and absolutely heavenly. It’s firm and ice-creamy straight out the freezer and more moussy when it melts a little. Either way, it’s delicious, and as a bonus, healthy too.

Gabi’s previous baking and dessert experience is evident from the collection of enticing Skinny Scoop recipes dotted across their social media pages. Skinny Scoop pairs well with coconut, nuts, fruit and more, providing a quick and easy base for creating delicious, healthy desserts.

Skinny Scoop comes in 175 ml and 500 ml tubs in two flavours: Vanilla Camilla and After Dark Cacao with more flavours in the pipeline. The vanilla is created with organic vanilla powder which is free from preservatives, colourants, artificial sugars and stabilisers, resulting in a creamy colour. The chocolate flavour is so rich, dark and decadent; you’d think it’s sinful, but it’s not!

Skinny Scoop is available at a number of retail outlets such as Wellness Warehouse (Kloof street, Waterfront, Cavendish, Paddocks), Osumo (Sea Point, Green Point, Cavendish, Canal Walk), Engen in Gardens, Spar (Cape Quarter, Vredehoek), Giovanni’s Deli World in Green Point, and Morgan’s Deli in Blouberg. They plan to branch out across the country soon.

Cool off on the hot days and treat yourself with Skinny Scoop – an ice cream that is pure decadence with no potential regrets!
