SAPS have confirmed that a robbery by five armed men took place at the Kenilworth Centre in Cape Town on Tuesday 3 October 2017, where suspects fled with a single cellphone.

Western Cape police spokeperson Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut confirmed that five robbers entered a cellphone store, believe to be the Telkom store in the mall, with the intention to rob it.

“They fled the scene with one cellular telephone, which was taken from a customer,” he said.

Traut said no shots were fired and no body was injured, contrary to reports on social media.

“The circumstances are being investigated and no one has been arrested yet,” he said.

This follows the robbery of the MTN store at the mall, and in August five suspects also robbed the Telkom store.
