Rhino Tears is an organisation that launched in 2014. Each bottle of wine sold in the Rhino Tears range donates proceeds to help put an end to rhino poaching within South Africa. Since their opening, The Rhino Tears has already contributed an impressive R850 000 to rhino conservation.
The Rhino Tears initiative was started by Mt Vernon MD, John Hooper. He met with John Turner, Chairman of the SANParks Honorary Rangers Conservation Services Unit and Andre Nel, owner of The Hat & Creek restaurants, to address the issue of animal poaching and how to combat it. Soon after, they came up with an inventive way to raise money to help put a stop to this cruel act.
But how would a company create a wine to suit all palates? The final outcome was a blend made from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage grapes. By combining these well-loved varietals, they made sure wine lovers could enjoy delicious, aromatic wine, while still supporting a cause close to their hearts.
