Creative minds, this one is for you. I’m sure you’ve been anticipating the Cape Town Fringe Festival, well I’m here to tell you that the wait is over. This year the same creative festival that includes music, dance, theatre and illusion is back in the Mother City, ready to entertain. Here is a list of a few things to expect at the city’s biggest arts festival.

THE GRUFFALO LIVE ON STAGE

Here’s some good news: The Gruffalo picture book is making its way to the Cape Town Fringe Festival in the form of theatre. The picture book, The Gruffalo, written in 1999, sold over 13 million copies worldwide.

The Gruffalo theatre show originated from the United Kingdom and will guarantee laughter, fun with song as well as storytelling theatre. The show is family-friendly and suitable for all ages. The cast includes an all-Grahamstown group who is more than happy to show off their talent in the Mother City.

The Gruffalo will feature the characters, storyline and cast from the classic West End production, but with a local spin. There are plans to conduct an isiXhosa production 2017.

NEVER-ENDING COMEDY WITH POLICE COPS

If you’re in the mood for a laugh then Police Cops is a must-see show. If you don’t believe me, take a look at all the awards they’ve received and been nominated for and let them speak for themselves: Award for Acting Excellence in 2015, Winner: Brighton Fringe Award for Excellence 2015 and Winner: Vault People’s Choice Award 2016.

There is an age recommendation of 13 years and older, so it’s best to find a babysitter before you leave for the show.

Police Cops has had three sell-out runs on at the Soho Theatre in London, and now makes its way to the Mother City for some entertainment. Watch the Police Cops trailer below to see what’s in store for you at this years Cape Town Fringe Festival:

ROB VAN VUUREN’S COMEDY SHOW: DANGLED

Comedian and multi award-winning actor, Rob van Vuuren will be performing a brilliant take on a horror comedy in Dangled.

The show’s themes consist of sexual violence, authenticity and the creative process. Guests will be entertained and disturbed, all at once. If you’re in for the thrill of it, the Dangled show is not to be missed. Please note the age restriction for this show is 16 years and older.

NIQABI NINJA

Fighting crime has always been cool. Fighting crime as feminist superhero seems even cooler. Niqabi Ninja is about a superhero born on the streets of Cairo. She seeks to avenge all injustices and harassment she has faced by men.

Niqabi Ninja sold put at Alexander Bar and makes its way to a bigger stage at the Cape Town Fringe Festival, where it’s sure to do just as well.

There is an age recommendation of 13 years and older for this show.

IN BETWEEN BREATH

In Between Breath is a amazing live performance of the physical exploration of the human body. A girl performances a solo performance. Watch the girl, a tortured object, as she tries to move in and out of reality. There is an age recommendation of 13 years and older for this show.
