Two time nominated SAMA and Soulful Artist, Mathew Gold (29), made a debut on the music scene way back in 2009 when he wooed audiences at South African Idols. His rendition of James Morrison’s Give Me Something was unforgettable. Gold made it to the top 12 and was voted off.

Born for the spotlight, he went on to pursue a career in televison and hosted SABC 2’s Hectic Nine 9. Since 2010, Gold has been back in studio feeding his singing talent, he has since produced three albums.  Several of his hits played across major radio stations and he has performed with the likes of the Late Hugh Masekela, AKA, Goodluck, The Kiffness, Sketchy Bongo and Crazy White Boy to name a few.

We asked him a few questions about style, holidays and his random favourites things…

My style icon would be somewhere between Andre3000 and Pharrell Williams. They both have such unique style.

Dream holiday destination right now is Sri Lanka. It’s not very popular like Thailand, but I believe it’s just as beautiful.

One random thing you can find in my car would probably be some old CD’s and definitely a basketball.

My favourite smell is David Beckham’s Instinct, I find it hard to get in South Africa though.

You will never see me without my cellphone, Labello and my one gold earring.

A Cape Town ‘gem’ would be it’s a place I’d like to go that not a lot of people know about, so I’m keeping that one to myself. If I could mention a different one, it would probably be Lefty’s on Harrington’s Street.

My favorite Cape Town personality is radio presenter Suga, from Heart fm. She’s as real as it gets.

I’m absolutely addicted to basketball. I am a basketball coach and just started playing basketball again, which reminds me, I have practice with the new team this Tuesday.

Growing up, I wanted to be a policeman or a firefighter, I don’t know why, but I felt like it was an easy choice back then.

One thing on my bucket list is to go and watch a band called Twenty One Pilots as soon as possible.
