Cape Town was a hive of activity over the weekend as the city was treated to a long-awaited minstrel carnival on Saturday and a highly successful Open Streets event on Sunday. In the aftermath of such a great weekend, one thing we can all agree on is that Cape Town’s arts and culture scene is very much alive and kicking.

They say that the best things in life are worth waiting for, and I do believe this was the case with this 17de Nuwe Jaar carnival. Tens of thousands descended upon the city centre to participate in and/or spectate at one of Cape Town’s most colourful and proud traditions. At long last, the event which was at one point hanging dangerously in the balance finally went ahead smoothly.

Yesterday Bree Street was declared ‘open’ and came alive with thousands of locals and tourists alike, all expressing themselves in whichever way they felt comfortable. Look out for our Open Streets feature and gallery coming today.

Have a great week!

Cheers,
Justin
