Do you ever start humming ‘I want to get away, I want to fly away’? Do songs about escapism, like ‘Fly Away’ by Lenny Kravitz resonate with you? Are you stuck in the nine to five daily grind (more like eight to six)? Do you feel like you need to break away? The Grind is just what you need to challenge and refresh yourself.

The Grind is an obstacle course race (OCR) event that offers something fresh. OCR is rapidly gaining popularity around the world, and this contest will be the first of its kind in SA. You’ll have tonnes of fun as you prepare and navigate the course while becoming fit in the process.

Whether you are a working mom, a student, a team of corporate fun seekers, a fitness enthusiast, or athlete, there’s something for you.

There are four race options, all focussing more on obstacles and less on running:
– The Rapid Grind 5 km: 18 to 20 obstacles over an easier course. For over 13 year-olds.
– The Deep Grind 8 km: 25 to 30 obstacles over challenging terrain. For over 16 year-olds.
– The Deep Grind Elite 8 km: 25 to 30 obstacles over challenging terrain. Cash prize awards. For elite competitors over 18 years of age.
– The Little G 1 km: Seven-obstacle whippersnapper course for the kids.

Check out the event brochuregeneral ticket info, and group ticket info for all the details, top tips, and prices. All finishers will receive a medal, and if you register online a week in advance, you’re guaranteed an exciting goodie bag.

Are you looking at all that mud and thinking ‘eww’? Don’t fret! There is mud, and then there is mud. The Grind complies with international standards and guarantees ‘clean mud’ formed with pure water and zero animal matter. Embrace the mud and get dirty!

The occasion will take place at Hillcrest Quarry, which will take on the name, ‘The Arena’. Here, spectators score an uninterrupted view of the final eight water-based obstacles. With hurdle names such as Balls to the Wall and Bonecrusher, you won’t want to miss out on any of the action. Check out the venue map to find out where all the activities will be going down.

In addition to the thrilling sporting endeavours, there will be a friendly and festive vibe with plenty of entertainment for all. Benches and tables will be available, and there will be refreshments on sale, a craft beer tent, merchandise stalls, product demos, a DJ, and kids activities. Entrance is free for spectators, so come and show your support and get motivated to join next time.

If you don’t manage to secure your entry in advance, limited registration is available from 6:30 am on the day.

Watch The Grind video, below, and build some excitement.

The Grind truly is for anyone, but if you want to learn the ins and out of OCR, join the community and head to a Grind training facility.

Whether you are participating or just watching, head to The Grind and become inspired for the further three events this year.
