Cape Town has lately been awarded several wondrous titles and bragging rights, the latest being that of having the best Chardonnay in the world.

This wasn’t just any fly-by-night accomplishment – Groot Constantia’s Chardonnay ’13 trumped more than 825 other wines from 41 different countries in the annual Chardonnay du Monde competition that took place recently in Burgundy.

It came out ahead of the DB Reserve Chardonnay 2013 from Australian estate De Bortoli (second place), and the Elevé en fût de Chêne 2012 from Swiss estate Cave Les Perrières (third place).

You can buy a case (yes, an entire case) of the world’s best Chardonnay from Groot Constantia for only a little over R1 000. Who said you need to be super wealthy to be a wine connoisseur?
