If you’ve been planning that winter snow trip since last year, here is your chance to see it.

Weather reports indicate that a sizeable cold front will be advancing over the course of the weekend and will make landfall on Saturday evening. The front will bring much-needed rain with up to 20mm predicted for areas around the Cape Peninsula.

Minimum temperatures during the course of Saturday night are said to hover around the eight-degree mark in Cape Town alone, while outlying towns like Ceres and Tulbagh can expect the mercury to drop to an icy one degree – with Sunday’s minimum temperatures dropping into the negative.

The front will move toward the interior of the country by Sunday, leaving behind frosty conditions and snow on the higher Western Cape peaks as predicted.

Capetonians who wish to make the journey out of the city to see the predicted snowfall on Sunday can refer to our guide on five of the best places to see snow in the Western Cape. It’s best to leave early to see the snow before it melts. Drivers are urged to take caution when visiting the snow as roads can become slippery.

Pack the padkos, fill up the tank and enjoy.
