They say summer bodies are made in winter. What ‘they’ forget to mention is how the cold, grey, wet weather makes it near impossible to be motivated to workout. A great way to break through this block is by challenging yourself to do something new – like wall climbing. Climbing is great for building muscle, core strength, balance and flexibility, it’s a full body workout and the best part of that it’s a ton of fun!
HangTime Gym caters to everyone interested in climbing. From beginners looking to get fit to experienced climbers in need of focussed training. They have a range of top notch facilities that will cater to whatever experience you desire. There are indoor and outdoor walls, a dedicated bouldering area and training facilities. The have two gyms, one in Pinelands and one in Bellville.
Both gyms are equipped with 11 metre and 7 metre high indoor walls that all levels of climbers can use. There are multiple routes that vary in type, ensuring that you experience something different every time you climb. You can do top-roping or lead climbing and there are built-in features like overhangs and roof slabs if you want to challenge yourself further. If you are not sure what those words mean, don’t worry. The staff consists of experienced climbers that will train you up so you become a climbing pro.
What sets HangTime Gym apart is their outdoor climbing facility. They have a 13 metre high wall that is big enough for side-by-side climbing on top-rope, and is also bolted for lead climbing. There is also an 11 metre wall also equipped for both types of climbing. This facility is great for those who want to get some endurance training in a controlled environment.
For those who are looking to build muscle, compression strength or work on specific grip techniques HangTime Gym has Cape Town’s only system board that will sort you out. A system board is a climbing wall that has regularly spaced and matched pair of holds. The system board at HangTime Gym is also adjustable, offering a great and varied workout. If climbing up and down is not enough, the bouldering is perfect for you. There the walls are angled from flat to 90 degrees, making it ideal for cross-training for sport climbing.
There is also a therapy room, for those climbers who over exert themselves or injure themselves. It’s a place designed to help you recover and heal faster. If you have energetic and active children, they would love to have their birthday at HangTime Gym. Kids parties are around 2 hours long and consist of 90 minutes of climbing, learning and games with plenty of time for cake. You need a minimum of five kids or a maximum of 20. It cost R150 per kid and includes everything except food. This offer is also translated into team building, where there’s less party and more connection, but it’s just as fun!
