As we welcome Women’s Month with the start of August, there are an array of events across the Cape Town to spoil and delight the special women in your life or even yourself.

Women’s Day is celebrated in commemoration of the women who marched to the Union buildings of parliament on 9 August 1965 against the Pass Laws for women.

Over 20 000 ladies marched for the rights of women and since the event, 9 August commemorated as Women’s Day.

It has been 24 years since the adoption of the Women’s Charter for Effective Equality in 1994 and this public holiday is the perfect reason to celebrate women.

Here are 9 events to put in your calendar this Women’s Month

1.Lanzerac Wine Estate – High Tea and Spa special 

The elegant and renowned Lanzerac Wine Estate is celebrating Women’s Day in style with an affordable high tea event on 9 August. The event cost R280 per person and the high tea includes freshly baked scones, cakes and savory treats. The afternoon tea includes a variety of TWG teas and a glass of champagne on arrival.

The winery is celebrating women throughout August with the Spa special for women to relax and unwind. Female guests can indulge in a face and body treatment, an express manicure or pedicure, use of the spa hydro facilities along with a wine and chocolate pairing.

The spa treatment lasts three and a half hours priced at R1100 per person.

2. Shimmy Beach Club – Empower me Women’s Day

Shimmy Beach Club is hosting an event to empower and educate women – the Empower me event will host an array of female experts who will educate and inspire event goers, from fitness specialist Emma Jooste to financial advisor and specialist Janine Brink. The female speakers will provide a space for engagement and inspiration.

The event cost R 450 per person and includes a 2 course meal and delicious canapés. Tickets can be purchased on NuTickets and takes place on 9 August. Live performances by songstress Francesca Biancoli, gift bags, pampering and pop up shops are available during the event.

All of the tickets proceeds will go towards an outreach program that aims to provide menstrual cups to girls in the township.

3. Harbor House – Bottomless Brunch 

The idyllic Harbour House in Constantia Nek is offering a bottomless brunch on Women’s day for R395 per person. The restaurant is well known for its sea-food menu and offers a sea-food and linguine pasta that is bound to satisfy your tastebuds.

4. Durbanville Hills Wine – Trail Wine Run 

Enjoy a trail run through the Durbanville Hills Wine Estate as you take in the fresh air and feel-good endorphins from a run. The run is for women only and is a relaxed 7km route, tickets cost R100 per person and can be purchased at trail run.

The event will have coffee and snacks on sale. There will only be 200 participants and tickets are limited for the event.

Runners will be awarded with a free glass of Durbanville Hills Wine merlot rosé at the finish line.

5. Café Caprice – A goddess luncheon

Attendees are encouraged to bring along a dress that will be donated to those who are less fortunate for their metric dance as Café Caprice turns them into princesses for their special evening.

The event will consist of a 3 course lunch joined by guest speakers such as Tracey-Lee Lusty, Amy may Roux, Manon Colmant, Robyn and Victoria Soffietti who have established businesses and aim to empower women around them.

6. Cape Town Culinary Tours

7. Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate

The estate will be hosting two events on Women’s Day, 9 August – from an mid-morning walk at 10.30am through the vineyards coupled with a tasting and a fun interactive competition. The walk will be a brisk three kilometer stroll.

Tickets cost R100 and R20 will be donated to the PinkDrive, a breast cancer awareness community.

The competition, ‘A minute to wine’ has three phases which allow women to compete against one another in three wine themed tasks. All tasks must be completed in the quickest time and kicks off at 1pm. Tickets cost R100 for two contestants and is bound to be a fun filled day.

 

8. Nom Nom Eateries 

A trendy eatery located in Somerset West will be going all pink on 9 August, in celebration of Women’s Day. Pop in from 10am – 8pm in your favorite pink attire and enjoy all things pink along with pink cocktails offered at half price.

9. Lakeside Lodge and Spa
