As you step into Shego, you are instantly transported to the Middle East, with the decor, aroma, music and atmosphere. Having been been fortunate enough to travel to the Middle East, this warmed my heart. It made me feel like I was on an adventurous holiday as the ambiance immediately whisks you into this vibrant culture, almost on a magic carpet ride.

Shego is a quaint Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant, located in the gorgeous Cape Royale building in Green Point. As we sat down for lunch, my partner and I decided to order the mezze platter, where you can have a selection of six, eight or 14 starters from the menu, and indulge in a truly Middle Eastern experience. From grilled halloumi to baba ganoush, falafel balls to muhammara dip, all served with a warm flat bread, the platter is enough to fill you right up. But, of course, we had to try the mains as they sounded totally delectable.

I opted for pan-fried lamb, which consisted of spicy lamb pieces cooked with tomato and green pepper and served with rice. While my partner chose the maqlube, which is lamb cooked with rice and layered with eggplant, served with yoghurt and salad.

The food was highly aromatic, flavourful and truly authentic. The service was impeccable and they catered to our every need. This spot is perfect for quick lunches during the week, intimate dinners and leisurely weekend meals. I cannot wait to go back and try something new on the menu!
