Considering everything that has been happening in Cape Town lately, Capetonians could do with a dose of laughter. Luckily this October, we are spoiled for choice with a pool of comics that are set to grace our city. We have picked out our five favourite, must-see comedians who will have you in stitches.

1. Siv Ngesi

Siv Ngesi is returning to the Baxter theatre this October to “SIVilise” Capetonians. Born and raised in Gugulethu, this witty and charming comic’s career began at a tender age of nine. He has bagged many accolades including Destiny Man’s most influential man under the age of 40 in 2011.

As a multitalented artist, Siv has managed to score himself some acting and presenting gigs. The last time we saw Siv was four years go and he has promised to dish out all the dirt until 14 October.

2. Mel Jones

She may be the only woman on our list – but that does not make her any less funny than her male counterparts. Hailing from Mitchells Plain, Mel Jones is not just another pretty face – she has drizzled some estrogen into this male-dominated field and boy are we enjoying it.

Mel came into the spotlight when she first dazzled the audience at the Spier Ampitheatre. Prior to that, she was just another underground comic trying to break into the industry. Her first performance was at the famous Cape Town comedy Club. Mel has appeared in many shows including The Phat Joe Show.

3. Conrad Koch and Chester Missing

It is hard to talk about Conrad Koch without mentioning his naughty puppet Chester Missing. A double Emmy nominee, Koch knows how to to strike a nerve. He has stepped on the toes of many politicians and he has no intention of stopping. His love for puppets grew when he was still in school, and with Chester who suffers from verbal diarrhea, you are guaranteed a sharp injection of laughter.

4. Gino Fernandez

You might have spotted him on Comedy Central or probably have hung out with him at the Cape Town Comedy Club. His interactive and witty style has recently landed him a nomination for the Savanna Comic Choice Awards under the category of  the Nando’s Best Friend Of Comedy. Gino Fernandez boasts more than ten years in the industry, and will be gracing the stage of the Muizenberg Comedy Festival, running until 15 October.

5. Ntosh Madlingozi

Ntosh Madlingozi is one of the veterans in the local comedy fraternity. He has worked with the likes of Kagiso Lediga and David Kau – and the former ‘So You Think You Are Funny’ judge is jack of all trades; a BCom graduate with a knack of entrepreneurship and an actor when time allows. His versatile and laid-back style wriggled its way into the hearts of many comic lovers and he’s now one the most sought-after comedians and MCs in the country.
