The City of Cape Town has recently implemented level 5 water restrictions to try observe water usage in the city as our dam levels lower. Growthpoint Properties Limited says that it has invested and will continue to invest in smart meters for its several buildings.
According to Growthpoint, it has strengthened its concentration on saving water at its buildings across the country in February 2016. “Already, it has reduced consumption of municipal drinking water by an average of 16%, comparing a 12-month period ending February 2016 with a 12-month period ending July 2017, across its entire Cape Town office portfolio” statement by the company read.
Growthpoint claims to have done well on its way to achieving level 5 water restrictions requirement of commercial properties reducing their monthly consumption of municipal drinking water by 20% compare to consumption for the previous year.
Werner van Antwerpen, Head of Sustainability at Growthpoint says, “Achieving meaningful water savings at any building that you own, but others use, isn’t easy.” He added that smart water meters allow management teams to respond quickly to leaks as consumption data is measured every 15 minutes.
The company says it is engaging with the businesses that occupy their buildings and the people who use them to ensure water saving as required by the City of Cape Town.
