A restored heritage building set under grand oak trees houses Noop restaurant, a spot that exudes warmth and hospitality to make you feel right at home.

Noop is well loved, not only for the excellent atmosphere but also the quality of the cuisine. Chef Zian Oosthuizen has a passion for food and loves selecting ingredients and preparing meals to perfection. He practically grew up in the kitchen and knows that it’s the place in the house that brings friends and family together to share good times and make memories.

Zian is a born and raised Paarl native and knows how to keep the locals coming back for more. He studied and worked at the acclaimed Warwick’s Chef School in Hermanus. He spent four years working as Head Chef at two popular restaurants in Hermanus but was drawn to Noop because of the creative freedom it offered him in the kitchen.

Zian seeks to keep the kitchen offering fresh, local and simple. Respect for the purity of the quality ingredients is crucial and therefore, he doesn’t over-complicate recipes. If something on the menu isn’t available on the day, it’s because they weren’t able to acquire the ingredient; they won’t substitute with alternatives. They try to support local producers wherever possible hence, their fruit, vegetables and flowers don’t travel far and herbs come from their own garden.

The menu offers everything from light starters and salads to gourmet burgers and succulent grilled Parmesan and herb crusted Karoo lamb rump. For dessert, the South African Plate has it all: traditional malva pudding, Amarula Anglaise, milk tart ice cream, soetkoekie crumble and spitsroken. Specials change daily according to inspiration or availability of an exciting ingredient.

They personally select their meat almost daily at a local Paarl butcher. They only use Karan Beef that has been matured for at least 32 days to make the most tender and tasty beef dishes. Their rich and flavourful venison comes from either a farm in the Namibian Kalahari or the Karoo depending on the season.
