If your child is constantly playing their guitar or turning every surface into their personal drum kit, it may be time to let them pursue their dreams. The School of Rock is an international music education programme that opened their first African branch in Claremont this year. This unique music programme allows kids of all ages to learn music, make friends and perform on stage.

The latest offering from the school is a Battle of the Bands Summer Camp that starts on 4 January. This is a camp for learners between the ages of 11 and 18, who have at least one year of playing experience under their belt. This is a chance for them to explore their talent by playing in a group and battling it out in true rock ‘n roll style.

Four groups will be formed and they will battle four of the following rock bands: Green Day, Nirvana, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, KISS and Guns N’ Roses.

Each group will attend the camp for two days, either Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday. Each day will consist of a seven hour session and the final battle will take place on Thursday, 7 January. The cost of the camp is R1,400. That includes the camp sessions and final battle. Today is the last day to sign up, so hurry to make sure you get a place.
