When you think about Cape Point you think about going to the infamous lighthouse to see the views, riding the Flying Dutchman to the top, or wandering the shipwreck trail full of ghost ships that never made it back to sea. While all of these activities are as great as they sound, there is something else you can do when you are in the area, and it involves wine!

Nestled beneath the mountain, close to the cool breeze of the Atlantic Ocean, you will find the Cape Point Vineyard, where you can kick back, relax and enjoy a day out at one of the most beautiful vineyards in the Cape. It is the only vineyard positioned on the narrow Cape Peninsula, so if you find yourself on that side of the world, you don’t have to leave to enjoy a good wine tasting. The Tasting Room is open daily from 11 am and 6 pm and features a selection of top Cape Point Vineyard wines and delicious platters to complement the drinks.

As for the wines themselves, Cape Point Vineyards produces a Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, Isliedh and Chardonnay. Their position means the vineyard is exposed to the sea breeze of the cold Atlantic and the southeasterly breezes from False Bay, creating the ideal conditions for slow ripening grapes, needed to make premium wines. It’s no wonder Cape Point Vineyards wines have received awards and praise. The proof however is in the pudding, and if you are impressed by the tastings and purchase more than R500 per person, your tasting fee is refundable.

There you can still enjoy the gorgeous views, while tucking into a steak, kingklip or Baked Provencal vegetable tart.
