The masterminds behind the Mother City’s favourite secret Gin Bar and trendy broth bar Marrow, have another exciting spot opening up in the city this month.

Located on Longmarket Street, ‘The Botanical Bar’ will be showcasing South African craft liquor and the different taste infusions with local botanicals.

The spanking new concept from Anthony Gird, Michael De Klerk, Jeanne Marais and Dennis Williams will offer the coolest Cape Town drinks from local producers with local ingredients. Classic cocktails and drinks will be taken to new heights and expectations with creative botanical tinctures, bitters, syrups, vermouths and shrubs.

One of the key ways we’ll be using botanicals is in our own range of bitters. ? The process of making bitters takes quite a while. Each herb needs to be soaked in alcohol ⚗️ to develop individual tinctures which are then carefully blended to create a specific bitters flavour profile. Here Pete and Ant are blending a naartjie and buchu based bitters which was super delicious! ???‍???‍?

Where there’s great drink, there’s (possibly) even greater food. The Botanical Bar will offer meze-style dips, breads and pickles at the bar, perfect for a tastebud refresher mid cocktail. Sharing plates with veg-focused dishes and a few fish and meat options will be on offer in the seated area.

The local produce focus isn’t lost when it comes to the food, with South African botanicals incorporated in the form of dressings, oils, infusions and bitters.

The Botanical Bar will be opening soon in December, so keep an eye out on their Instagram feed for the official opening date. The bar will be open from Monday to Saturday at 160 Longmarket Street, Cape Town.
