Beachgoers, be on the lookout for these adorable little fellows. A wave (pun intended) of baby Loggerhead turtles have been washing up on Cape Town shores in recent times and, as cute as they may appear, they are actually in grave danger. The Two Oceans Aquarium has requested the public to be on the lookout for these hatchlings, which have originated up north from the waters off Kwa-Zulu Natal.

The turtles are drifters, often succumbing to the wrong current and taken down south where the water is too cold for their natural preference. Reptiles do not take well to our chilly Southern water temperatures.

If you come across a baby Loggerhead turtle upon one of our beaches, take immediate action by transporting the hatchling to a dry, ventilated container that is ideally at room temperature. The next course of action to take is to contact the Two Oceans Aquarium, where a rehabilitation program is in place for these ocean-dwellers. The Aquarium can be reached at +27 21 418 3823.
