Four people were killed in a head-on collision between a bakkie and a car on the N1 towards Paarl from Worcester on Wednesday afternoon.

Occupants of both cars were found scattered around the accident scene, with both cars on the side of the road, according to Russel Meiring from ER24. The bakkie was found on it’s side.

A man and two women were declared dead on the scene after succumbing to injuries, Meiring said.

Nine other people, including two children, were injured in the crash. Four were critically injured, and five others had less serious injuries.

Those who were injured were sent to Worcester Provincial Hospital after being treated by paramedics. A woman was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The exact details surrounding the accident are not immediately clear. Police are still investigating the cause.

As the holidays come to an end, the Cape’s visitors will be heading back home, drivers are urged to stay alert and be safe on the roads.
