Celebrate the beginning of the fruit and wine season as the spring blossoms bloom at the annual De Krans Spring Blossom Festival on the weekend of 2nd and 3rd September. With apricot and peach trees in full bloom, this is a sight not to be missed!

The De Krans Cellar in Calitzdorp, only 30 minutes outside of Oudtshoorn, is making sure that the scenic Spring-beginnings can be enjoyed with a weekend of amazing activities for visitors to experience during their time on the farm.

Start your Saturday off with the 9 am Vineyard Run. Enjoy a jog or walk through the vineyards while taking in the picturesque views of the beautiful orchards in full bloom. Enter on the day at 8:30am and choose between the 5km and 10km trail. A selection of great wine prizes will be up for grabs for various categories, with the fun run only taking place on the 2nd of September.

If you wish to take in the Spring views at a slower pace, take a leisurely stroll through the orchards to admire the beauty of the stunning blossoms. Capture the essence of Spring and stand a chance to win a fantastic wine prize which will be up for grabs for the best photographs taken at De Krans during the weekend. The winner will win their weight in De Krans port and wine!

Become apart of the blooming season and plant and adopt your own young vine, at only R20 a vine. All funds raised will be donated to the Hope Options Centre in Calitzdorp. Plant as many vines as you’d like, but booking for this one of a kind vine planting experience is essential, and will only take place on Saturday, 2 September at 11am.

Don’t forget to take something home from the market at De Krans, which will be open to the public on the 2nd September only, from 10am, and it’ll be focusing on everything Spring. Pick and choose from the Spring inspired goods on sale such as indigenous plants and trees, herbs, homemade products, freshly baked bread, as well as unique wines from other local boutique wine producers.

Running through the vineyard, strolling amongst the Spring bloom, planting vines and scouring the market goods can all work up a pretty healthy appetite. Grab a seat at the homely De Krans Bistro & Deli and a enjoy a country style meal in comfort. The deli will be open throughout the weekend from 9am to 4:30pm. Reservations will unfortunately not be taken on the day, so be sure to get there early to avoid missing out on a tasty brunch or lunch.

Sunday 3 September from 11am, will see a new, unique Calitzdorp High Tea. A different take on the average High Tea will give you the perfect excuse to sip and savour the stellar ports paired with delicious treats and a fabulous time. R90 will secure your spot at the affair, and booking is essential.

While you’re on the farm, don’t miss out on tasting the entire range of recently released 2017 white wines, including a Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage Rosé and the farms ever-popular Moscato Perlé.

End the ideal Spring weekend off with the De Krans Cocktail Hour on Sunday afternoon. From 12pm you’ll be able to indulge and experience some of De Krans’ unique port based cocktails and more.
