The tenth edition of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will see athletes literally getting a spring in their step with the annual event taking place this September.

It’s a great time to be outdoors. As temperatures quietly rise following the chill of the winter spell, a true Goldilocks season in Cape Town emerges. Not too hot (nor windy) and not too cold. Many will confess that it is the finest month here, weather-wise. This is September in Cape Town and a fitting month for it to be the proud location of a marathon that is a must-do on the calendar for runners. Now those who aren’t yet exactly peaking in their training at the +/- 50km distance of a typical marathon need not be frightened off by the word

This is September in Cape Town and a fitting month for it to be the proud location of a marathon that is a must-do on the calendar for runners. Now those who aren’t yet exactly peaking in their training at the +/- 50km distance of a typical marathon need not be frightened off by the word marathon in this context.

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon caters to a variety of joggers ranging from your serious and seasoned ultra marathon iron man, the adventurous trail runner through to the social stroller. There are five different races offered this year, a 42.2km marathon, a 10km peace run, 22km and 12km peace trail runs and lastly a 4.2km fun run.

Heritage Day in South Africa occurs every year in mid-to-late September, and the marathon has generally been centred around the date of this holiday. The 2017 instalment will fall on the weekend of the 16th and 17th of the month.
