Another drowning has occurred in the Cape this season, taking the total number of drownings up to 11. Paramedics said a man believed to be 60-years-old drowned at Glen Beach, between Camps Bay and Maiden’s Cove, on Thursday afternoon.

ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said when paramedics arrived at the scene, lifeguards and Community Medics were already performing CPR on the man.

Van Huyssteen added that paramedics took over CPR and began advanced life support interventions.

“Unfortunately, the man died shortly afterwards.”

The exact details surrounding the incident are unknown.

Ten other drownings have taken place in the Cape over the summer season. Three people drowned at Mnandi, four at Strand/Gordon’s Bay, another at Soetwater, one at Muizenberg and one at Monwabisi.
