Over the past 30 years, The Iziko Planetarium has played an part in many a Capetonian’s childhood. Now, The Iziko Planetarium that we all know and love is undergoing some TLC, to keep it in tip-tip condition for many more years to come.

The Iziko Planetarium is a facility that offers audio-visual shows and learning experiences for guests, young and old. The venue can be booked for corporate launches as well as multimedia presentations. Not it’s set to receive a R27 million digital upgrade.

Planetarium

With the upgrades, Cape Town’s favourite starry museum will have the same standard as leading international museums of its kind. The upgrades will include an installation of a state of the art digital full-dome immersive theatre, which will be used as an educational and research tool for students and researchers alike.

The immersive theatre will also showcase a variety of shows on subjects such as astronomy, natural sciences, molecular biology and marine biology. What’s really exciting is that these educational shows will be in a 3D environment, making the learning much more exciting. The upgrades will take around six month to complete.
