Ah, December in Cape Town: good food, lots of wine, plenty of sun and … road closures? It wouldn’t be summer in the Mother City without one or another road being blocked off for a festival of some sorts. And this week is no different, what with temporary road closures on Adderley Street and all roads leading from Darling Street. These will occur between 10 am and midnight on Sunday 4 December for the Festival of Lights celebration.
The festival will include plenty of musical acts at the Grand Parade, a big and bright street party where vendors will be selling everything from food to early Christmas gifts and stocking fillers, and, at 8.30 pm, the Executive Mayor of Cape Town will switch on the lights.
Medical personnel and police officers will be on duty throughout the festival to ensure all attendees are safe and have a good time. No parking will be allowed on Darling and Adderley Streets on the day.
