Eleven-year-old Capetonian conservation activist, Hunter Mitchell is on the search for 10 rhino warriors to join him on World Rhino Day at Aquila Private Game Reserve as they work together to help save the endangered species.

Mitchell established the foundation, ‘Raise the Baby Rhino with Hunter’ and through his efforts has raised R225 000 towards the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured rhinos.

In August 2018, Mitchell was awarded the second place in the International Eco-Hero Youth Awards held by Action for Nature on 20 August 2018.

Rhino conference

In an effort to raise awareness, Mitchell along with Aquila Private Game Reserve are hosting a competition to gather 10 young rhino warriors, on 22 September 2018 to celebrate World Rhino Day.

As part of the ‘rhino conference,’ the winners will be accompanied by one of their parents on the day as they encounter rhinos in the wild at the Aquila Private Game Reserve with Mitchell.

Mitchells explains that the day will consist of up-close encounters and brainstorming towards the conservation of rhinos.

“I have put out a challenge on the Aquila Private Game Reserve Facebook page looking for 10 rhino warriors to join me for the day at Aquila to learn more around rhino, see rhino in the wild and to spend time coming up with ideas to work together for our precious rhino,” he said.

Mitchell aims to educate, inspire and empower scholars to do their part for rhino conservation with the use of the competition.

“My goal for World Rhino Day is to bring together an amazing group of young people who want to help take responsibility for the future of our rhino and stand up for our rhino,” Mitchell explains.

How to enter  –

Enter the competition by submitting a one-minute video to the Aquila Private Game Reserve Facebook page – the video must share your passion for rhinos and the environment.
