The recent spate of train fires continue in Cape Town as two more trains caught alight this afternoon.

On Sunday, June 2 at 1.40pm, the City’s Fire & Rescue Service responded to trains burning at the Transnet Engineering Yard in Maitland.

“Five fire fighting appliances, a rescue vehicle and 21 staff members are on scene,” the City said.

The fire was contained to several abandoned carriages and later extinguished at 4.29pm, the cause of the fire is not yet confirmed.

No injuries have yet been reported.

This week alone, two other train burning train and carriage fires have been reported, and seem to keep coming.

On May 28, two train carriages were destroyed by flames at Cape Town Train Station and just 24 hours later, on May 29, yet another train carriage went up in flames.
