The V&A Waterfront has become a major tourist attraction over the past few years. Energy saving has also become a big part in the lives of many Capetonians, especially since the V&A Waterfront solar farm went live. Combine energy saving and the V&A Waterfront and you’re guaranteed to find something cool (and something that will make the tourists flock), like their new fast-charging car stations for electric cars at its Silo Precinct.
The Waterfront has five electric car charging stations where visitors can charge their cars for free. The idea was started last year in August, when Nissan and BMW were the first to install car charging stations at the tourist attraction in the Mother City. Each charging station located at the V&A Waterfront has two bays which can charge the batteries of six cars at the same time.

These awesome charging bays are located in the basement parking near Pick ‘n Pay, outside the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, outside Tasha’s Restaurant on Breakwater Boulevard and in the basement parking near Pick n Pay.
Visitors are allowed to park and charge their cars for three hours, as it takes about two and a half hours to charge electric cars that are available in South Africa. All you have to do is use a recharge card, that you receive when purchasing your electric vehicle, to swipe the machine. It then unlocks a flap and you can plug in your own cables for charging.
We think this futuristic car charging facility is incredible and definitely puts Cape Town on the map with first-world countries and their facilities.
