Two letters penned by Former President Nelson Mandela have been put on public display for the first time in Cape Town.

It’s believed the letters were written by Madiba during his imprisonment on Robben Island, and eventually found their way into the hands of a Pretoria-based collector, who discarded them in his attic for several years. The letters date back around 30 years and now form part of an exhibition on historical mail, which is currently on at the Cape Town City Hall.

They are both addressed to the former leader of Mandela’s Transkei homeland, Kaizer Matanzima, and they are valued at around R250,000!
