Can you believe it’s nearly Easter? This year has been flying by at break-neck speed and we’ve already almost arrived at the first long weekend of the year. This is an unbelievably good reason to do cool things.

Dance under the stars and go nuts at Easter Vortex – it is a long weekend after all
Get your doef-doef on at this large festival gathering that is a tradition for some, and a rite of passage for others (myself included). Tip-top event organisation by the owners of Vortex ensures a jolly good time for all and it’s been that way for over 20 years. The music may not be for everyone, but embarking on a camping expedition out of the city for the long weekend, with a group of friends for bonding purposes, can never really be a bad thing. It’s not strictly Easter themed in the religious sense, but could be construed as a pagan/change-of-the-season type festival. Bring chocolate eggs for sharing in any case.

Binge on comedy and laugh so much it hurts
They say that laughter is the best medicine, and the Cape Town Comedy Club has the medication you need over the long weekend. Previously called ‘Jou Ma se Comedy Club’, this stand-up comedy venue will be open Thursday through to Sunday with a single, repeat line-up for each night. Pick any night and bring tissues.

Take the kids to the V&A Waterfront and let them meet the Easter Bunny
Technically I never got to meet the elusive Easter Bunny as a kid so this is the big chance. From noon to 12:45 pm on Friday through to Sunday, kids (and adults) can come face to face with the six-foot, bipedal rabbit who will almost certainly be dispensing chocolate. The V&A will also be bringing back their petting zoo this year at the Watershed, where children of all ages can meet furry and feathery friends for a fee of R20 each.

Partake in a Easter egg hunt on Table Mountain (because gardens are too mainstream)
If the kids are getting too clever and you’re running out of spaces to hide the eggs on Easter Sunday morning, the Table Mountain Easter egg hunt is just up your alley. That sneaky and elusive bunny will be leaving clues in the form of paw prints for the kids to pick up on and entry includes a return trip on the Cableway. Fairies performing magical tricks and puppet shows will keep the parents and their little ones entertained as they hunt for chocolate on one of the natural seven wonders of the world.
