There’s something about the Paarl Winelands that translates into tranquility, and Brookdale Estate is picture perfect with luscious greenery as it’s backdrop – a peace haven among the vineyards.
I said goodbye to the city and embraced a relaxing staycation at Brookdale Manor House, along with my incredible mother, who needed some time away from the buzz. We were welcomed by General Manager Yvonne Coetzee and in-house butler Justin who offered us delicious homemade iced teas writes Cape {town} Etc’s Jay-tee Davidson.
Brookdale has five Manor House Suites and a Vineyard suite, and can sleep up to 12 adults and 2 children, catering for individual room rentals or a Villa rental suited for family and friends. The rooms are neat and delicately decorated while the individual suites are perfect for a romantic getaway! Treat your lover to views and a special dinner in one of the stunning dining rooms. Special touches like lavender and rosemary bundles on white bed sheets had us smiling from ear to ear.
The warm South African sun was glistening on the pool as we sipped on their delicious Mason Road Serendipity Rosé. And that’s only the beginning of a magical adventure. There’s an abundance of activities to do, from taking a dip in the pool, to scenic walks around the breathtaking estate. Say goodbye to those aches and niggles by enjoying a classic in-house spa treatment, or explore a range of exquisite wines with a cheeky tasting.
Waking up to birds chirping instead of the early morning traffic can really put you in a different mindset. Brookdale offers the ultimate serenity, and the environment and hospitality gives you a gentle space to kick back and relax. This scenic escape from the day-to-day city life was a breath of fresh air, and one that I needed. Their ethos “stay curious” gently guides you to explore your sense of wonder. What was once a forgotten vineyard, is now a creative space where minds can wonder, collaborate and relax.
Home away from home, if home had cool features such as remote controlled blinds. After all, nothing says ‘relaxation’ quite like operating your windows from the comfort of your bed, or pressing a button and watching the TV slowly rear its head at the foot of your bed.
But the experience was about to get so much sweeter as I dipped my finger into the scenic honey jar. The staff gave us an exceptional experience from a private sunset wine tasting with the sweet and quirky winemaker, Kiara Scott, to a personalised dinner by the entertaining executive chef, Gary Coetzee.
Gluten-free, sugar free and fresh out of their veggie garden, warm plates of love were served to us during our stay. A loving collaboration between the staff, soil and guests. Mum and I spent a few hours raving about the attentive and sweet butler Justin, while Yvonne’s warm touch extended throughout the Villa.
Powerhouse Kiara and her team are leading the Estate’s wine portfolio in exciting directions. Both of their Chenin Blanc wines were scored an incredible 90 in the 2021 report on SA wines.
