Gift of the Givers has been instrumental in uniting people and helping those in need. It’s considered one of the largest non-governmental disaster response organisations and has come to the rescue of thousands of South Africans.
Dr Imtiaz Sooliman is a modern-day hero, he’s a man of enormous distinction and integrity, so it’s no wonder that South Africans are urging the philanthropist to consider running for president.
Dr Sooliman has empathetically declined the recommendation, saying “I am not interested in politics, I have a spiritual responsibility.”
In an interview with IOL, Dr Sooliman said, “The call for me to be president has been coming through loud and clear throughout South Africa for quite some time now. The problem is that there’s clearly something wrong with the system. Why would the public want somebody else to be a president when there is already an existing president that has been democratically elected by the people?
“It means there is something wrong with the way the country is being run. People are not satisfied, and to me, it should be a wake-up call to government. I am not interested. I have a spiritual responsibility, a spiritual calling.”
“Our mission has been simple for the last 30 years – we react immediately to restore dignity to the most vulnerable affected by disasters regardless of race, religion, colour, class, political affiliation or geographic location.”
