Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde has lamented COSATU’s planned strike for Thursday, describing it as misguided.
COSATU in the Western Cape alongside its affiliates is set to march to the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Government, and Parliament for violent crimes in the province as well as the exorbitant fuel prices.
Premier, Alan Winde said the strike may not be the solution.
“All law-binding Western Cape residents, including the government , are fed up with high crime rates and tired of living in fear but to staging a protest and strike to draw attention to this issue is not the way to go,” added Winde
He highlighted, that the demonstration of the protest comes at the time when the province desperately needs to jump-start the economy and create jobs after the COVD-19 State of Disaster. Also looking at the counter-productive effect it will have on those taking part as well as prevent hardworking residents from getting to work on the day. More importantly, taking the grievances of the labour federation and Western Cape citizens to the doorstep of national government specifically the President and Police Ministry which sits in Pretoria.
The Premier has invited COSATU to a meeting to be able to discuss the way forward on taking the unions to national government.
