South African artist, Jo Voysey’s first solo exhibition ‘Animal’ will be showing at Commune.1. Voysey is primarily concerned with the complex relationship between humans and animals with particular interest in notions of loss and healing. Using medicinal remedies such as Mercurochrome, charcoal tablets and Friar’s Balsam in her work, creates vibrant work that is so appropriate for her subject matter.

In ‘Animal’ she continues her previous explorations, adding to her anticipated figurative representations of animals by delving into new and emotive abstract territory.
