We are buzzing this morning with the news of a pod of fairly elusive orcas spotted in False Bay. Orca sightings were uncommon in our neck of the woods until 2009, but since then sightings in False Bay have become more and more frequent. The latest sighting confirmed a pod of up to 20 orcas – the largest in our local waters yet.

Feel-good news making the rounds yesterday was that of man and his best friend. A Cape Town local had hiked up Table Mountain on Sunday with his golden retriever, who unfortunately stepped on glass and cut three of its paws badly, rendering it immobile. After several attempts to carry the 40 kg retriever back down the mountain, the owner made the tough call to leave the wounded animal where it was to go and seek help. Fortunately help was found in the form of two passersby who alleviated the retriever’s plight by taking turns carrying it back down the trail and successfully reuniting with its owner. I hope karma gets the people who left broken glass out on the mountain. Read the full story here.

Football fans are in for a treat this evening as local giants Ajax Cape Town take on Bundesliga club VFL Wolfsburg at Cape Town Stadium. Continental stars such as Nicklas Bendtner (ex Arsenal) and Kevin De Bryun (ex Chelsea) will be starring in the friendly. Tickets can be bought here.

Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday!

Cheers,
Justin
