President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to host a farewell dinner for former president Jacob Zuma today.

According to news reports,  the dinner will take place at Tuynhuys in Cape Town and all the country’s cabinet members and their deputies have reportedly been invited.

Naturally, we can think of better places for Ramaphosa to host his predecessor for dinner than a stuffy official residence. So we decided to list the top contenders for a very presidential farewell.

The Test Kitchen

Being the adventurous politician and always willing to try something new, Zuma could enjoy the inventive cuisine at this fine establishment. It’s on many bucket lists and well within his means thanks to his presidential pension. However, there is one snag. When Zuma asked for six months more in office, what he was really holding out for was a reservation at The Test Kitchen. We don’t know where the ruler of Nkandla will be in six months. It’s best not to take chances and seize the moment for a decent meal.

Nando’s

Nobody knows a good grilling better than Jacob Zuma. Our former number is used to feeling the heat, and in fairness should claim lifetime membership at any Nando’s around the world. Even if he retires in Dubai. Nando’s never chickened out when it came Zuma, so it would be a natural setting for a fond goodbye if Ramaphosa wants to keep things spicy. No takeaways allowed this time.

Bukhara

Zuma is no stranger to Indian food. He has quite a penchant for it, coming from KZN an all. But recent events have led us to believe he is more captivated by Indian cuisine than we first thought. A farewell dinner at Bukhara would be like eating at home for Msholozi. We suggest getting an extra naan bread to mop up the gravy when things get really messy.

Pollsmoor Prison (Idlanathi Restaurant)

We’re not even making this up. The food at the Pollsmoor Prison restaurant has been getting rave reviews. The food is prepared and served by the inmates, so it’s an opportune time for Zuma to get to know his soon-to-be neighbours. Bonus! Zuma’s cabinet members may also take the opportunity to get reacquainted with long lost friends in the tronk, and perhaps take their jumpsuit measurements. No numbers gang for Zuma though. We all know his struggles with arithmetic.
