I adore carnivals. They are the perfect place for a family day out, hanging with your friends or even a super fun date. You can go on rides, dance to live music, buy absolutely anything and eat a ridiculous amount of food, most of which comes on a stick! In fact, carnivals are the one thing movies and music videos don’t exaggerate; they really are as much fun as they seem on screen.

Carnival-6

Perhaps the greatest thing about the Community Chest Carnival is the food. They always offer an incredible amount of food that encompasses the cultural diversity of Cape Town. This year that will be amplified by the addition of gourmet food trucks, where you will be able to try everything from butter chicken, spit braai lamb pitas, waffles and everything in between.

Carnival-2

You can enjoy your favourites or try something new, whichever direction you go, there will be enough variety for you to explore. The Vineyard Oval Market will also be operating within the carnival for its duration. You can also enjoy craft beer, wine tasting, a pop-up cinema from Short and Sweet, a skate park and live entertainment.

Carnival-4

Last year was my first time attending the carnival, and I was blown away. I was like a kid in a candy store, getting overly excited at the numerous cool things I saw. I kept running off to look at interesting stalls and after I bought a slinky, bubbles, books and a T-rex balloon I named Thaddeus, my friends literally had to hold me back.

Carnival-3

The Community Chest Carnival has become one of the coolest events on the calendar, and what makes it even better it that it’s all for a good cause. As a fundraiser event, the carnival raises money for over 200 organisations throughout the Western Cape who are in need. Helping out a cause has never been this fun!
