Online dating has always been a bit of a hit and a miss for me, writes Cape {town} Etc‘s Lynn Cupido. I think most people who find themselves scrolling through Tinder or Bumble in hopes of finding their perfect match, usually wish that they had an adorable meet-cute other than “we swiped right”.
Maybe you lock eyes while ordering ice cream or you drop your book just as you’re exiting your local coffee shop. Okay, perhaps these scenarios are a little fantastical and don’t have a place in the modern dating arena, but the idea got the cogs in my fairytale-filled brain thinking – just where do Tinder people hang out in Cape Town?
I decided to investigate, opting to put myself out there and gain some insight into a few cool new ice cream spots in the Mother City because it’s summer, and who doesn’t love soft serve?
Here are six ice cream spots Cape Town as recommended by Tinder matches:
Ice Dream
Hout Bay is home to some amazing hidden spots and this gelato dream is one of them. They are the oldest Italian Gelaterias in Cape Town and according to said Tinder match, serve some of the tastiest scoops around.
- Location: Main Road, Hout Bay

Dunes Beach Restaurant and Bar
This beach restaurant and bar is home to the best ocean views and ice cream apparently. Located right along Hout Bay Beach, this gorgeous little spot is perfect for long conversations, good food and dessert – (ice cream)!
- Location: 1 Beach Crescent, Scott Estate, Cape Town

Crumbs and Cream, Sea Point
Crumbs and Cream has always been in my top ten when it comes to ice cream spots. The perfect view of Sea Point, a swing set, and the most decadent ice cream sandwiches and milkshakes make Crumbs and Crumb uber-romantic for ice cream lovers.
- Location: 16 Regent Rd, Sea Point, Cape Town

Oblivion Bar & Kitchen
This popular Claremont restaurant serves delicious ice cream smothered in chocolate sauce, but it’s their mouth-watering dessert menu that will keep you coming back for more, as they say – chocolate fondant, anyone?
- Location: 22 Chichester Road, Claremont
- Contact: www.oblivion.co.za
Elgin Railway Market
Whether it’s ice cream, good food, or glorious arts and crafts, Elgin Market has it all. It’s also a cute little spot for those looking to plan their fifth or sixth date – once the security check is completed, of course. Make it even more romantic by hopping on the famous steam train that departs from Harbour Bridge Hotel and stops at Elgin Market.
- Location: Oak Avenue, Elgin, Cape Town

The Creamery
When all else fails head to The Creamery. As an ice cream enthusiast, this is another top favourite and it appears to be a hit with other people too. Relaxing vibe and right by the promenade, it’s great for those looking to tuck into some good ice cream and enjoy a chat.
