Take a deep breath my fellow Capetonians, summer is here! And with the weather forcing us to take a step outside and enjoy the fresh breeze, there’s no better time to explore Cape Town’s outdoor culinary scene. 

Unfortunately, winter is not for everyone, but in my humble opinion, summer is. 

The warmth of the sun on your skin, the sight of Table Mountain in the distance and a drool-inducing ice cold beer should be enough to get you outdoors and seated at a few of these incredible restaurants. 

Here are seven outdoor restaurants to enjoy this summer.

On the Rocks

Remember the sight of Table Mountain we spoke about earlier? This is the perfect spot to enjoy a beer or cocktail with a view. Nestled in the always beautiful Blouberg, On the Rocks has an extensive cocktail menu you need to check out, along with a delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.

Chocolat Bistro 

If you’re craving a good chocolate cake and a laid-back atmosphere, this Durbanville eatery is the one. Along with a delicious menu, it also offers French-inspired decor and food options – the perfect trip for avid Francophiles. They also have a quaint outdoor area where you can have your cake and eat it … while enjoying the summer breeze.

Blanko 

Blanko is the culinary star of the show when visiting the historic Alphen Hotel. They offer an outdoor seating area that’s ideal for soaking up the sun while enjoying a few delicious options on their menu. Start off with some fried squid and don’t forget to savour their famous sweet treats. It’s the best way to enjoy Constantia.

  • Location: The Alphen Boutique Hotel, Alphen Drive, Constantia

Table at De Meye

There’s no better way to enjoy the outdoors than by grabbing a table at this eatery. Locally sourced food paired with a delicious set three-course menu and a spacious outdoor area make Table at De Meye a summertime hit. The menu changes every week, so you’ll always have a reason to come back.

Die Damhuis 

Another gem in the Blouberg area, this restaurant is the perfect stop for those looking to enjoy wholesome food, good views and fresh air. With a beach-style theme paired with your mom’s cooking, hungry patrons have the chance to enjoy traditional bobotie and a devilish chocolate torte.

Arkeste Restaurant 

Nestled on Chamonix Wine Farm in the always laid-back Franschhoek, Arketse is the perfect kitchen to sample while enjoying a dish or two amongst the trees. This eatery offers a fine dining experience while enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature with Confit duck and crisp prawns just a few of the dishes you can sample on the menu.

The Deck, Hidden Valley

Hidden Valley has some of the best views in Stellenbosch and The Deck is no exception. The Deck is a self-service eatery that’s on a floating deck, ensuring that patrons hungry for the outdoors and some good food have a place to go.
