Nestled between the majestic mountains of Somerset West and the roaring Indian Ocean is a wine estate that offers great wine, beauty and history.
Established in the 1700s, Vergelegen Wine Estate provides guests with more than just stunning views and award-winning wines. The surrounding gardens have attracted visitors to the estate since its inception nearly 300 years ago.
Who does not enjoy a delicious glass of wine with their nature?
Visitors have and smell the roses as they meander through 19 unique gardens. However, it is the estate’s camellias that will steal your heart with over 1000 bushes to take in and enjoy.
The garden has been awarded the Camellia Garden of Excellence status thanks to its nearly 550 cultivars. A few rareties include Francie L and Anticipation from New Zealand, Grace Albritton, Tiffany and Lasca Beauty from the USA, Laurian Brown from South Africa.
If you’re looking to spend a day amongst these gorgeous flowers, it’s peak flowering times for these plants despite the chill in the air.
Head to Vergelegen Wine Estate from now until 31 August to enjoy a peek.
